China’s President Xi Jinping has urged the United States to act carefully when supplying weapons to Taiwan, describing the issue as the most sensitive point in relations between Beijing and Washington.
During a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump on Wednesday, Xi emphasized that Taiwan remains the core issue in China–US relations. According to Chinese officials, Xi warned that decisions related to arms sales could seriously affect bilateral ties if not handled with caution.
Taiwan at the Center of Tensions
Taiwan has long been a major source of tension between China and the United States. Beijing considers Taiwan a part of its territory and strongly opposes any foreign military support for the island. The US, while officially recognizing China’s “One China” policy, continues to provide Taiwan with defensive weapons.
Xi reportedly told Trump that actions related to Taiwan could have far-reaching consequences for regional stability and global peace.
Call for Responsible Management
The Chinese leader called on both sides to manage differences responsibly and avoid steps that could escalate tensions. He stressed the importance of maintaining stable communication channels and mutual respect between the two countries.
The White House has not released detailed comments on the call, but US officials have previously stated that arms sales to Taiwan are meant to help the island defend itself and maintain balance in the region.

Relations between the world’s two largest economies remain fragile, with disputes over trade, technology, and security continuing to shape their interactions. The Taiwan issue remains one of the most sensitive topics, often influencing the broader direction of China–US relations.
